Very basic -- appropriate for the most challenged families
I found Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child : Eliminating Conflict by Establishing Clear, Firm, and Respectful Boundaries lacking because it doesn't address the fact that most children (at least some of the time) are ready to move onto learning how to identify choices on their own... i.e. how to instill values (oops... that might invoke shame) that will help them throughout the rest of their lives when you're not peering over their shoulders. It doesn't account for the fact that children are capable of empathy well before preschool and that there is value in teaching to that skill. In fact, the chapter on verbal communication is the shortest one at a mere 8 pages.

I felt completely out of control and ill-equipped to handle the challenges my child poses. Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child : Eliminating Conflict by Establishing Clear, Firm, and Respectful Boundaries is a must have for any parent who struggles with disciplining their child. Our 3.5 year old son is very strong willed and traditional methods of time out (in a corner) were not working. Setting Limits with Your Strong-Willed Child : Eliminating Conflict by Establishing Clear, Firm, and Respectful Boundaries was well written and filled with helpful examples. Within a week we noticied a difference - and best of all - I feel confident about what I am doing. If you are even considering the book - buy it.
