Recommended for special use
First, I own an iPod mini for general use and an iPod shuffle for use in the gym.
I needed a player with an AB function. This function allows you to set up a continuous repeat of any section of an audio file (during playback, press the AB button at the start of the part that you want to repeat, then press the AB button again at the end of the part to repeat. Pressing AB a third time clears the repeat). Its a very simple function, but extremely useful for learning/deciphering parts of songs. When CD players first came out, the AB function was ubiquitous. However, it has virtually disappeared over the last decade or so.
I compared many players (with AB buttons) during my research. I chose the SanDisk for the following ... Read More
Still a great purchase over a year and a half later
I bought this player to take with me when I was a freshman in college. Now, halfway through my junior year, it's still in awesome condition. I mostly use it when I go to the gym and sometimes when I'm driving I plug it into a tape adapter and it sounds really great. I don't ever use the voice recording function, but I'm sure it could be useful if you wanted to use it. If I drop it (which I do a LOT at the gym), the little protective case is good because the player is so small it can get banged around easily. It automatically shuts off when dropped, which may or may not be a good thing. Also there is a handy lock function, so you don't have to worry about accidentally turning it on and wasting the batteries. (Another good point - one AAA battery lasts ... Read More
Great MP3 player - Bad earphones
I love this MP3 player. I bought this to use when mowing and it works perfect. The original earphones had great sound but the 2nd time I used them, the cord fell out of one earpiece. I found a really good pair to replace them and now I wouldn't take anything for this player. It was a refurbished player but works like a new one. I highly recommend this item but be prepared, you may want to purchase a more durable set of earphones along with it. Still a great bargain for the price.
Baffling
Bought this for my husband for Christmas. It's May, and we still haven't figured out how to use it.
Great Value with 1 drawback
This device is great for the price. I download licensed WMA (Plays for Sure) books from Netlib. My plan was to use the FM radio for morning runs, then switch to the currently loaded book for my afternoon walk. The problem I have is that thw unit reverts back to the beginning of the book when switching from radio to song (book) mode. I haven't found a way to defeat this or a link to contact Sandisk by e-mail to question this.
