Haven't had problems people complain about
I got my espresso/coffee maker at a yard sale for $25 so maybe that makes me a little more kind, but I haven't had as bad luck as everyone else. The espresso maker is a bit touchy- sometimes it shoots out fast and because I get distracted I miss the chance to steam my milk. Other times it's slower. Other than being a bit labor intensive it's really not that hard to make espresso/lattes. Of course I've never used another espresso maker so I have nothing to compare it to. It makes good coffee and espresso and is short enough to fit under the top shelves on the counter. Like I said, since I only paid $25 I really can't complain.
We love this machine
We love this machine. We have limited space and need to have both a coffee maker and a cappucino maker in that space. We have had none of the difficulties that others mention. But we did take the black plastic sleeve off of the frother and that has made a huge difference. With it on we got bubbles. Now we get great froth. And if we pack the espresso well we get an excellent crema. It is a $100 machine that makes both coffee and espresso. It is not going to be like a $1000 Starbucks machine. We set our expectations appropriately and were delighted.
CHEAP JUNK. DON'T BUY THIS
My wife and I had this machine for only two months when the carafe handle broke off. I have read other reviews here with the same problem. By looking at the way the plastic handle is made it is easy to see that this is a design problem. I still have an earlier Krups expresso machine that is much better designed and has had no problems for about 8 years. I bought this one as an update and for the combination of the coffee maker. But this machine is just junk. The milk steamer does not heat up the milk as hot as the earlier model, and the design and construction bad and a step backward. Unfortunately, Krups no longer makes the earlier model that works so well.
Disappointed
Krups XP1500: We bought this model as a replacement for a similar model that served us well for 10 years. Coffee was not good and we believe the thermostat stuck because it just went on heating getting hotter and hotter. We also were disappointed in Amazon because they did not offer the same model with a timer and more features.Sent back for refund, which actually cost us an additonal $12 because we could not get the same freight rate that Amazon received. Lasts forever
Had a version of this coffee maker for four years on a boat, I've worked out it has made well over 7000 cups of coffee... living on a boat on the ocean the salty air has eaten everything else that's not "marine grade" and usual much more expensive, except for my old Krups, she's still going strong!
That's works out to a cost of around one tenth of one cent per cup!!!
