Nice product at a great price
Having shopped around extensively for a dutch oven I can say the $111 I paid is a great price for Staub 5-Quart Round Cocotte, Black. It performs as promised - food cooks up moist and tender. I've made several chicken dishes in it and stuffing for Thanksgiving. It goes from stovetop to oven to table and it cleans up easily, making it really convenient to use.

We bought a few of these for gifts for close friends. One of the pots and one of the lids had unacceptable defects in the enamel finish so we ended up making some returns. Not sure how the quality defects managed to make it past the factory door.
The remaining items were in good condition and will be well appreciated by the recipients, I'm sure.
Quality cookware
I had been interested in purchasing a dutch oven but really did not know which brand to purchase.
When a shopping alert on simplyrecipes.com came up for the Staub 5 quart Round Cocotte in Yellow I grabbed it! It was one of the best purchases ever! I love the "french" oven for its superior quality and excellent ease of cleaning. The black inside also is a plus as I know that other brand has a white inside that gets colored with whatever you've cooked. I highly recommend Staub 5-Quart Round Cocotte, Black. I would suggest you purchase a larger size than the 5 qt
Nice heavy cocotte!
This thing is heavy. I think the lid is heavy enough to create a pressure cooker effect. Should be great for braising, but I haven't tried that yet. It has been good for gently simmering soups, but not so great at bringing water to a boil quickly to say, cook pasta or anything like that. The weight/mass of this thing makes it slow to respond to heat changes, but great for heat retention. The manufacturer recommends hand washing, but says it's OK for dishwashing.
So, there are pros and cons, but it is a well made product, and should last a while. I still find myself looking for a large do-it-all pot though.
Staub 5 Quart Round Cocotte
Item is satisfactory it doesn't seem as heavy as LeCreuset and the edge around the pot is not consistent and becomes thin in places. I would not buy another Staub pot and will keep this one and appreciate the positive aspects of it.
