What Others Say

A drip off the old block
I purchased this kettle based on the strong reviews. It heated water very well for two days, but there appeared to be some condensation around the bottom of the kettle. We soon realized that the kettle was, in fact, leaking at the lower seems.

So I returned the kettle and ordered a replacement. This time, it didn't have a small leak on the seam. It had a very large leak. Water was actually running out of the kettle and dripping on the electric base below. Needless to say, that's not a functional way for a kettle to work.

So Chef's Choice 678 Cordless Electric Kettle is 0 for 2. I missed the return window, so I've got a scrap kettle. And I still have to use the stove to make tea. Not recommended.

Great So Far
If you have not tried an electric kettle, then I'd urge you to get one. They are a great addition to the kitchen.

This is the second electric kettle that we have owned. The first one was a Cuisinart, which died early. It had a more stylish design, but did not last. We loved having an electric kettle, but we were looking for a more reliable product. We purchased the Chef's Choice based on the Amazon reviews. It has been seven months so far, and we are very happy with Chef's Choice 678 Cordless Electric Kettle.

First, it looks great, which is somewhat important as it sits out on your kitchen counter all of the time. It is on the large size, but if you have the counter space then that is an advantage because you can quickly boil a lot of ... Read More

It leaked!
Maybe i just got a lemon, but the seal about an inch above the bottom was leaking after just a few days' use. Seems like a design flaw..returned. Besides that i liked it, and i was hunting hard to minimize plastic....

Early demise
We really liked ours. We'd shopped hard for a replacement kettle that we'd had for a long time, no longer available, which a house guest had absent mindedly put on the stove top. We settled on the Chef's Choice and were pleased with its appearance and function.

Within three months, though, its on/off light became unreliable and then it quit shutting off and then it quit coming on.

Pffft!

I gave it two stars instead of one because it was pretty neat while it was alive.

For Those Who Don't Want Plastic...
I purchased this kettle just over a month ago to replace my Braun WK200W which I purchased in 2006 and used every day up until I received this new one. I replaced the Braun simply because I was concerned about its plastic construction and the potential dangers involved in heating water over & over again in a plastic receptacle. This Braun kettle isn't entirely plastic-free (there are two small plastic 'caps' over the level-indicator inside the pot, and the spout area is also plastic) but it had the least amount of plastic of those I looked at. That said, this kettle does its job very well which is to heat water of any amount (even less than the recommended 'minimum' level) quickly and relatively quietly. It holds a large amount of water, ... Read More
