Editorial Review:

Amazon.com ReviewContemporary Stainless is for home chefs who place as much importance on cookware style as they do on performance. The sleek, modern vessels in this line have curvaceous and smooth flared tulip shapes that create a stunning presence while heating on a stovetop or hanging from a pot rack. The brushed steel exteriors are a beautiful complement to professional stainless-steel appliances and are less likely to show baked-on grease or wear than a polished finish can. Gracefully curved stainless-steel handles are comfortable to clutch and are forked in a half-moon shape at the riveted base to prevent heat from transferring down the shaft. Glass covers are convenient for watching food cook and have curved handles plus wide-banded stainless-steel rims for durability.

Heating in this 5-quart sauteuse, which measures 12-3/7 by 16 by 3-3/8 inches high or 6 inches high with the cover in place, is sure to satisfy the performance requirements of discerning cooks. The pan boasts triple-layer construction with stainless-steel exteriors bonded over a full aluminum core that extends up the sides as well as through the bottom. Aluminum is an excellent heat conductor, providing consistent cooking of pasta dishes, risotto, and casseroles. The stainless-steel pan is safe in the oven and can withstand broiler temperatures as well as the use of metal utensils. However, the lid is oven-safe only to 450 degrees F. All Contemporary Stainless is dishwasher-safe for quick cleanup and covered by a lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

What Others Say

Great Versatile Pot
This 5 qt. pot is an addition to other open stock stainless steel Caphalon pots and pans I've purchased recently. It's 2 short handles are great for tight spaces on the stove and balancing. Food cooks evenly throughout the pot, plus I can bake meals in this pot! This pot cooks better than any non-stick pots I've had. Cleaning the pot is easy (even for someone like me who is prone to overcook food). I use few pots and pans so versatile cookware is important in my household. I am changing out all my non-stick pots and pans for stainless steel and have not been disappointed with any Caphalon stainless steel pieces I've purchased. I don't think I'll return to non-stick.

NOT suitable for induction cooktops
I purchased this pot for use on my induction cooktop and it does not work. While it was a pretty nice pot, I was disappointed that the product description doesn't clarify which cooktops it will work on (especially because it is listed as a stainless steel pan). After returning this pot, I found an equally nice one for 1/4 the price at a major department store's one day sale.

Calphalon Stainless Steel 5 Qt. Sauteuse
The Calphalon Stainless Steel 5 Qt. Sauteuse was a fair value. I have used it several times now and truly enjoy the high quality, craftmanship, and performance overall. The oversize width @ the base (believe it's about 14 or 15") offers ample cooking service when preparing large family style dishes. I find it's excellent for stews, soups, and stir-frying a variety of food. My only gripe is when stir frying or browning meats (experienced first hand with chicken & beef thus far) it tends to stick to the pan. Even when left for a few minutes on med-high heat for browning, the meat is difficult to lift. At which tearing the meat is inevitable and flipping them to the opposite side also poses a challenge. Nonetheless, I sitll consider this a ... Read More
