reception not good
i used to have the milwaukee job site radio until it grew legs so figured id try dewalts job site redio.the milwaukee sounds better it has digital tuning, equalizer, digital clock and overall a better redio for the same price as dewalt.
Useful Product
Very useful item to have around. However, the tuning dial is difficult to fine tune. If you can tune in a station it sounds pretty good, but it is not easy to do. Would be much better if it used digital tuning. A CD player would also be nice, but I can understand why you wouldn't want one in a rough and tumble product like this. Overall great product.
Great Radio-Horrible Reception
I was handed down this DeWalt radio from my brother who is a carpenter and myself being a plumber, love the durability and charging feature, but most of the time it's not worth the trouble of taking off of the truck because it never gets reception... major major downfall do not buy this radio if you plan on listening to it, the same radio just broke on me and I need a new one, just dont want to buy another DeWalt to have the same problem occur....disappointed by DeWalt more and more each day, QUALITY SEEMS TO BE LACKING IN MOST DEWALT PRODUCTS!
Noisy reception
This radio gets very poor reception. All stereo signals are noisy on this radio. If you manage to find a station that is too weak to activate the stereo multiplexer, you can enjoy music w/ relatively quiet background, but normally, by that time, there is no reception at all. This is one radio that would benefit by a mono switch. Mono switches are available on just about every FM stereo radio made except this one. When mono is activated you loose the stereo signal but the background noise is all but eliminated affording you a clean mono signal. Dewalt apparently chose to save a dollar a unit by leaving this switch out. Big mistake for a radio that has such poor reception to begin with.
Other than that, the sound quality is OK for what this radio is - a jobsite radio/battery charger. The cost of the unit is not much more than the cost of a battery charger alone and this one seems better protected from the elements and shocks than the standard battery charger. The radio runs all day on an 18 V battery (I haven't run a battery down yet w/out charging it so I can't say exactly how long).
The stereo sound is OK, acceptable bass, just noisy. The controls are very easy to use even w/ gloves on. For an extra dollar DeWalt could have made this a 4 or 5 star box.
beware
The description of this work site radio in the catalog says it will charge 7.2 volt batterries through 18 volt. The invoice says it will cahrge batteries (7.2 - 18volt NiCd batteries) . I ordered a battery for my radio (12 volt NiCd) DW9050) THAT battery won't work and since I opened the package I can't send it back and I blew $65 on a battery I can't use. I since discovered on the DeWalt website IT tells you you can't use NiCd (univolt) batteries for this radio. VERY confusing and misleading. NOT HAPPY!
