This is not made that well. Part of the rack are not welded together. Not worth the money A Must-have for the holidays (and everyday) I've had this rack for over a year now and I've used it many, many times. It's a roasting necessity for a beautiful holiday turkey, everyday chicken, or fabulous sirloin roast (gives you uniform roasting by allowing heat to circulate around the meat and preventing the lower portion of your roast or bird from boiling in it's own juices at the bottom of the roasting pan). This particular rack is offered in a larger size, but when I bought it last year, this was the only choice available. I'm very happy with it -- I've cooked a few 20+lb turkeys in it and don't see the need for the larger rack. Granted, my 22lb turkey did look like a size 18 woman in a pair of size 6 jeans, but it still worked quite well! I've never had a problem with clean-up that a little soaking in soapy water didn't fix. The rack doesn't look as lovely as the day I got it, but geez... it's been roasted a couple dozen times and it's still going strong. I highly recommend this rack. What I've been looking for I've been looking for the perfect roasting rack for some time now and this is it. It's heavy weight and the entirely covered in a smooth, non-stick coating. The lifting handles are fixed in place but quite generous, allowing room for an oven mitt on your hand. I really like that the "ribs" are thick but widely spaced. They still support your food well but fewer "ribs" are easier to clean when you're done, although it is dishwasher-safe. Definitely the quality you expect from Calphalon. This rack comes in 2 sizes (this is the smaller one) and I bought both as I wanted the larger one for cooking ribs and large pork loins. Since the lifting handles are fixed (they don't fold down) be sure to measure the roasting pan you will be using to make sure this will fit. If the size works for you, I think you'll be happy with this reasonably priced, well-designed rack. good value What's not to like? It's cheap and non-stick. Good value. Unlike most reviewers here, I found cleaning the rack to be a snap. For those 'non-25 lb. turkey' roasting jobs..... I have both this and its 'big brother' that came with the Calphalon Contemporary roaster. This rack gets the most work since I rarely get to cook for large parties or family gatherings. It is sturdy but it is no joy to clean. That is why I have rated it 4-stars. This is the type of item, because of its sharp, fixed, hard-to-reach angles that begs to be dishwasher safe. I wonder when companies like Calphalon will get a clue??? | |
