GE 75290 Spacemaker CD/FM/AM Player with Built-in Subwoofer (White)

GE please HELP
I purchased this unit in October/01 and have had nothing but trouble with it. On the radio AM or FM mode when you set the volume to where you want it, after a few minutes the volume drops right off and you can't hear a thing. It works OK on the CD player. I have had it exchanged three times and it is the same with each new unit. I wrote GE in Canada three months ago and the have yet to respond. I am going back to get a refund.

This Is An EXCELLENT Product
Installation was very simple and nice hardware was provided to compensate for different cabinet designs. I especially liked the friction-fit plastic spacers which held onto the screws when I lifted the stereo up to cabinet. This made it very easy to hold the stereo with one hand while I tightened the screws with the other hand. Even without the template installation would have been simple because there are only 4 necessary holes and they are spaced on the corners of a simple rectangle. Other great features are the space on the back which allows you to wrap up the excess cord and nicely hide it from view, the easy-access light bulb door which simply hinges down when you need to change the bulb, the LED display which emits a very nice glow with large numbers, and a handy little spot to keep the remote. The Bass Boost may not boost as much as one may expect, but it definitely makes an audible difference. The sound quality is just fine for a kitchen. The switches and controls are nicely organized. I have no concern at all about the type of "buttons" it has because they are basically "membrane switches" and they have always worked well for me and were very durable in other products I have had. FM reception is actually BETTER than I expected. If you know anyone who lives in Raleigh, NC, ask them to try to tune into 92.3 FM and tell you about the reception they get. This radio station is in Greensboro, NC, and surprisingly I pick it up very well with this stereo. I have had plenty of other tuners that had trouble doing this. Also, I had no trouble at all with the radio station presets. Setting them is a very logical process and results in 10 clearly identified preset stations. I love this stereo. My ONLY criticism is that the unit is actually very light gray in color instead of a brighter white I expected, but this does not concern me a bit because it still blends in just fine with my white kitchen.

This is my second Spacemaker Radio
I purchased this for my wife this Xmas. I already had the older version of this radio with the casette tape. It was time to get digitial tuning and a CD.

Overall this things works just as expected. It is not a boombox so don't expext it to fill the house. It was designed to fill the kitchen with music and it does a very good job.

Likes: Digital Tuning, CD, Remote, LCD Display

Dislikes: The "chicklet" style buttons. I think they will help with cleaning, but I hope they will last. And I think the mounting holes should have been arranged to match the holes of the previous version. I can't be the only owner who upgraded and hated drilling new holes!!!
