I bought this thing from amazon over a year ago, it never worked right. But a least it only caught bread on fire a couple of times. We have gone round and round with Kitchen Aid over getting a replacement. They won't honour the warranty. At the very least Amazon should drop it. RUN!
Very Disappointed - It's Going Back to the Store
I just bought one of these toasters after having my previous model, by Black & Decker, fail me when the handle to one of the levers which depresses the toast broke off. Although it still worked, albeit a little more awkwardly, it seemed wise to replace it. Even broken it was better than the KitchenAid. The whole wheat bread I prefer doesn't fit completely into the slots if I'm trying to toast four pieces; an edge of each piece sticks out beyond the toaster elements. When we first tried it this morning, turning the sensor to 5 resulted in almost no toasting; putting it in again resulted in a partially burnt product. We tried toasting a single slice and that too was burnt. Sacrificing an additional slice of bread in the interest of science, we turned the sensor to 7 and the toast was largely acceptable except that the edges were burnt.
Aside from the fact that it doesn't do a decent job on the only function it's designed for, the lack of energy efficient features such as the ability to heat only the slot that's being used is another gripe. I have been quite pleased with other KitchenAid products that I've purchased, but I'm very surprised and not at all pleased with this one.
Kitchenaid usually makes good products but......
We bought one of these and took it back the next day. Even on the lowest setting, it will burn parts of the bread, but not other parts. We tried moving the bread to different areas of the toaster with the same result. Sometimes it would toast one side dark and the other side light. The bagel setting does the same thing to bagels. I guess Kitchenaid needs to start testing their toasters before putting them on the market. We exchanged the first one for another of the same thing because we liked the design better than anything else out their, and the second one was just as bad if not worse. So we returned the second one and now we don't have a toaster. We have had many different Kitchenaid appliances from dishwashers to refrigerators to toasters and they all worked but not this new toaster. Disappointing.
Won't pop down most of the time
Not really happy with the unit. Was bad out of the box. Had in box for 3 months so we could not return it. Very unhappy with it.
Great Toaster, Reliable and Consistent!
First, I have to admit that I read some of the other reviews and was shocked by what I saw. It's what made me decide to write a review in the first place. I've found that this toaster is reliable and consistent. I've never had any problems with it burning anything I've toasted, be it a bagel or a slice of bread. It toasts everything evenly and perfectly, every time. If you've ever bought anything from Kitchen Aid, you'll find that, as with most of their products, it lives up to the name. Is it going to revolutionize cooking? No. It's a toaster. But if you're looking to start off the morning with a good piece of toast, a bagel, or an english muffin - perfectly toasted - then this is the toaster for you.
