"Not so hot" toaster
I bought this toaster to replace my old Kitchen Aid toaster, expecting the same quality and results. It looks nice, but I was not happy with it at all. As a mom of five children, I didn't want to spend all morning in the kitchen, which is why I bought the large toaster. The consistency of the toaster was not there. My toast would burn even on lower settings. Although it looks great and does have some nice features such as accomodating different sizes of bread, etc. I put it back in the box and bought a Cuisinart instead.

Not a good value for the price
I purchased our Kitchenaid four-slice toaster about four years ago and have found it somewhat disappointing, especially considering what we paid for it. I based my decision to purchase it on the favorable, even glowing reviews some people gave the product, choosing to disregard as aberrations the more negative ones that described uneven browning or projectile toast. Well, we don't experience projectile toast, but we have yet to get an evenly browned piece of toast from this toaster. The toaster does look very nice and is sturdy, but it is not worth the nearly eighty dollar price we paid for it. I would never recommend this product to anyone as a good value. It's not a lemon, but it certainly hasn't lived up to our expectations. My advice is to look elsewhere and save your money.

Kitchenaid Toaster - Works for 2 years.
I bought the white version of this toaster two years ago.
Now, the bread won't stay down; if you are persistent,
sometimes you can get it to stay down, but then it won't
toast... Not recommended, unless you replace your toaster
every 2 years anyway.

A fine 4-slice toaster
After almost 20 years happily using 2 successive Cuisinart 2-slice tandem toasters that have been recently discontinued, we tried this Kitchenaid tandem 4-slice toaster. I don't have to wait until my wife's toast is done to make my own (she said, "Whatever do we need a 4-slice toaster for? There's only 2 of us!" - forgetting that 2 people times 2 slices equals 4 slices).

At first I was disappointed - the toast came up slowly, and incompletely, the toast didn't get dark unless I first pressed the 'frozen' button. I even wrote to the company and said this was a bad design - they immediately sent us a replacement.

But meanwhile, the original toaster improved steadily! We did comparison testing with the replacement toaster when it arrived, and realized that the mechanisms are merely stiff at first, and after a few toastings, the unit works just fine.

The slots are not as long as the Cuisinart, nor quite as wide, but are just fine for our purposes.
