Fast, small, good battery life but a couple of things could be better
This is my 3rd Canon Digital Elph. I love the quality feel, the small size and the great battery life, and the fact that I can tweak the picture settings a lot. The fast power up time and cycle time between shots is nice too. The 640x480 30fps movie mode (almost DVD quality) is great (though the lack of image stabilizing makes things sometimes unavoidably wiggly looking). My only real complaint is that with "auto" mode, outdoor shots of people sometimes have skin tone that's too blue, as if the camera guessed the wrong white balance. This happened with my older Canons too. It's easy enough to get around this by using manual mode though. Other reviewers mentioned that the LCD was fragile, so the first thing I did was order a thick plastic protector from www.daproducts.com. It's not beautiful but it sure looks like it'll help with avoiding accidental damage (note: this is NOT the thin peel on/off protector that you can find advertised elsewhere, it is a solid thick piece of plastic). I am a novice photographer at best, and my main concern was to find a digital camera small enough to fit in my purse. Even in its case, this camera is extremely small. I am very pleased with this purchase. It has worked well. Great Buy This unit is tiny in size only. It is hugh on features. As a retired commercial photographer I have plenty of camera's around. This camera is carried on my belt at all times. UPDATE: After carrying on my belt for 18 months, the unit still works like new. This camera is with me at all times unless I'm carrying the XTi with 24-105 L series lens. Probably taken at least 2-3000 pix with the SD400. well worth it! compare to the other brand digital camera above 5MP, it cannot be compared with this product. I am impressed with the quality of the pictures taken from this camera, I feel like I am a good photographer! With the rechargable battery and a charger, it is not to worry that when you have to replace a new battery. quick charge and long time to use. cannot ask for more. one thing about the memory card that comes in a box only has 16mb, so you have to buy another memory card. Good camera, but too many features After purchasing the SD400 I read the reviews. A bad one complained of easily damaged LCD screen. Another reviewer indicated where to buy a plastic shield made by 'da products', which I did. I have used this small camera several weeks now. I carry it in my pants pocket on the job. No complaints, save one. Why can they not make a small camera with a decent lens and resolution simple, easy. Why does it need umpteen features that will never be used? | |
