good for ipod, bad for radio
great speakers for playing ipod. great look. however, not so good for radio (both fm and am). poor reception anywhere you place your radio even when you are using their antenna. but if want this to play your ipod and for alarm, then it is a good buy.
what i expected..
I'm pretty happy with my iHome.. it does pretty much what its meant to do.. wakes me up and i can jam to my tunes without using iTunes or my headphones..
I'm pretty happy with it.
Excellent sound quality but VERY bright clock
I have had this for about 15 months and here is my opinion.
Good points:
- Excellent sound quality - the speakers are solid and I have had no problems with static as mentioned by some other reviewers. Very comparable to the JBL dock.
- Good design - fits in well with the iPod look and feel.
- Has the ability to play audio from an external device via the included cable - I love this feature and sometimes hook it up to my laptop to play Internet radio. Also if you have an iPod Shuffle then it means it is compatible.
Bad points:
- The LCD backlit clock is VERY bright. There are two settings, but even the lowest is far too bright. It looked fine in the brightly lit store , but it makes my bedroom light up at night like a floodlight. My girlfriend used to get around the problem with the use of a strategically placed pillow, which kind of defeated the purpose of having a clock. Since then I've had to move it out of the bedroom. I haven't seen any of the other reviewers complain about this - and I'm not sure why because for my this was a BIG problem. Doesn't anyone else think this is a problem?
- The tuning and volume controls are wheels which I guess is supposed to mimic the iPod's design. However, it is poorly constructed and sometimes
goes down instead of up, or doesn't change at all. I learnt that if I push down a little and don't spin it fast then it can work better. This may be a particular problem with my particular iHome, however, so you may have better luck with yours.
- There was no remote control included with mine - I had to send off for it if I wanted it. I believe that the newer models now have this included though.
Overall this is a very innovative product. I'm sure there are devices that are even better quality (Bose?), but as this is under $100 and a clock radio. Just beware of the bright LCD backlight!
Great for the 1st 11 months
I absolutely loved the iH5 clock radio for the 1st 11 months. Aside from the constant hassle of trying to get my ipod video to properly fit into the docking station; I was very happy with my purchase. Eleven months later my problems began: the clock constantly resets, often a factor in me being late because I do not have the correct time and the ipod will often stop playing after a few minutes. I called ihome for customer support and they replied by stating that the product is not guaranteed to work beyond the 90-day warranty. If I wanted it fixed I needed to send it to El Paso and it would cost me at least $40. Since $40 is half the purchase price of the unit, I am on the hunt for a more reliable unit.
Pleasantly Surprised
I Must say I am Pleasantly Surprised with this Product. After reading some of the reviews on here I was Hesitant to Make this Purchase, But after seeing it on Sale for $75 I figured what the Hey. I recieved My ihome 3 days after ordering it using Super saver shipping and immediately Plugged it in.
First, Let me say That The Sound is Awesome for such a Small Unit, I hear absolutely NO Static. There are Lots of different Docks even the Nano. I know some reviewers said the Nano Dock was Missing but I recieved one with Mine.
Also the Remote is Included, So you don't have to spend an Additional $20 for the Purchase.
I would highly recommend this Product, and if it's still on Sale for $75 when your reading this don't hesitate to Buy Now, You won't be disappointed.
