Review of ihome ih5
I bought this as a gift for my 13 year old niece, so I can't really rate it for myself, but she says she loves it - works great, etc. Anyway, you certainly can't beat the price on Amazon. I'm giving it a 4, versus a 5 becaue it is an older version and supposedly the new model is much improved, though more expensive.
Was great, while it lasted.
Yesterday my iHome alarm clock stopped working, it has stopped before, but I was always able to get it working again in some way. It sucks to wake up late for work, I need an alarm clock that I can depend on, something that I know will go off everyday. I received the iHome for Christmas 2005, which means that I have had it for 1 year and 5 months. When I bought it, it didn't come with a remote, so I had to send $20 to the company to get one. For about a year I loved my iHome, maybe I loved it too much, maybe it is not built to go off everyday and to be used to listen to the radio and ipod everyday. About a month ago the receptors for the ipod started acting strange and it would only play the ipod if it was positioned just right, what a headache. In my opinion, alarm clocks should last longer than a year and a half, hey I had the same alarm clock all through elementary, middle and highschool, I bet it still works. Basically, if you want to be woken up by your ipod buy another ipod/alarm clock combo, there are tons out there, this one is just not reliable enough for me to recommend to anyone.
radio review
I gave the product to my grandaughter for her birthday. She says it great and works real well. Neet, as she put it. Everything was as expected.
Nice way to wake up
The iH5 was purchased as a gift for my dance partner, to whom I gave an iPOD for Christmas. Apparently, she purchased a clock radio with an iPOD connection and had continual problems with setting the wake up time and it not going off and the connector for the iPOD was not reliable. The iH5, in comparison sets time very easily (rotate the dials on the top for settings and volume control), the iPOD Nano that I gave her fits comfortably into the docking port (blanks are provided to accommodate several different models) and it communicates with a satellite to set the accurate date and time (on the front display) so you are always on time. Your iPOD is safeguarded by making sure that it's always charged and in a convenient location for you ... and on top of all that, the iH5 sounds good, too. Sure, there are the normal things ... preset radio stations, remote control so you don't have to get up, but the reliability is what she likes. I'm a hero for getting her both the iPOD and the iH5.
Outstanding iPod Clock Radio!
I must say that I love this iPod Clock Radio. The sound is surprisingly good considering that this is a 15 watt unit, and its rich resonant sound will fill a bedroom or a small office. The iHome will charge your iPod while it is playing (or even when it is not playing), and the alarm buttons and the forward/reverse buttons are backlit in the dark.
I also appreciate the brightly lit digital clock on the radio. It is pristine and clear and easy to tell the time. You can even dim the time if it seems too bright.
The iHome also comes with small FM and AM antennas, a 15 volt DC plug, and multiple slots so that it you can fit any iPod onto it.
The unit also comes with a small line in plug so you can hook up other non-Apple mp3 players and play them through the iHome.
My one note of criticism is that it doesn't come with a remote. You will have to pay an additional $19.99, and even then, it will only control the volume and where you are in a song. It will not be able to switch albums or files.
Also, the unit comes with two AA batteries so that the time will not go out when you have to unplug the iHome to switch outlets.
This unit sounds better than almost any other clock radio I have ever heard. The only one I have heard in this price range with a fuller sound is the iPod clock stereo radio made by TEAC, which you can get at Costco. But it is bigger and heavier, and not as portable nor as pretty as the iHome. Moreover, the clock is harder to read on the TEAC.
I have a black one and a white one, and I use them all the time. One is at home, the other is at work. A great buy!
