Good for Charleston, not so much for islands
I bought Insiders' Guide to Charleston, 11th: Including Mt. Pleasant, Summerville, Kiawah, and Other Islands (Insiders' Guide Series) not only to find out about Charleston, but also to get some info on the offshore islands, specifically Folly Beach. Be advised that the island info is absolutely miniscule and the book is definitely NOT recommended if that's one of your main purposes of buying Insiders' Guide to Charleston, 11th: Including Mt. Pleasant, Summerville, Kiawah, and Other Islands (Insiders' Guide Series).
The book has a ton of history of the area - to the point where I think it's almost too much. Others will love that aspect, I'm sure.
For Charleston proper, it does a very good job of describing the attractions, hotels, restaurants, etc.
