Product DescriptionThe Low Iodine Cookbook is the ultimate cookbook for thyroid cancer patients who need to be on the low iodine diet (LID) for radioactive iodine treatment or scans. Written by a renowned cookbook author who is experienced with the issues involved with special diets and substitutions--particularly diets that don't allow dairy, or store-bought breads, the unique cookbook contains more than 250 kitchen-tested recipes and over 20 milk substitutes and variations, and an exhaustive nutritional analysis chart.
At last, LID recipes are easy and delicious--by the woman critics hail as the ''Julia Child'' of specialty diet cooking. Always keeping her motto that ''food that is good for you should taste good!'' in mind, Norene's take on the LID is no exception. This book will change the lives of thyroid cancer patients.
What Others Say
Could not have done as well without this book!
The recipes are delicious, easily prepared and very satisfying. The introduction by Dr. Ain is extremely helpful, the tips throughout the book are fabulous and I really don't think I could have done as well following a low iodine diet without this wonderful resource.
Great Cookbook
I want to thank the author of this cookbook. I bought The Low Iodine Diet Cookbook to prepare for my radiation therapy due to thyroid cancer. I received the book promptly after ordering. I looked through the entire book and made a list of all the recipes by page number that I would be interested in and made a grocery list. I already had a lot of the ingredients on hand because they are basic which is a real plus. I then spent a day baking and freezing many items which has been wonderful. All of the recipes have been delicious. So much so, that my family eats them and enjoys them very much. Even though being hypo is a challenge, the recipes are easy to execute. I like the book so much that I will continue to use many of the recipes after my treatment.
Don't bother
I wouldn't make most of these recipes if I was full of energy, let alone hypo. You can get better information online. My recommendation is: don't waste your money.
Excellent for anyone who needs help
I bought The Low Iodine Diet Cookbook to get some ideas when my brain is foggy from being hypothyroidal. But then a friend borrowed it so she could prepare some meals for HER friend who had to undergo renewed tests. That friend is not a cook, and there lies the value of The Low Iodine Diet Cookbook.
Anyone who uses prefab foods and has no idea how to prepare meals from scratch will be in trouble when suddenly faced with a low iodine diet. The Low Iodine Diet Cookbook helps to get some bearings and eat nutritious and mostly very tasty meals that even a spouse who is not a kitchen genie can prepare fairly easily.
Pricey, as are all specialty books that don't go into mass printing, but definitely worth the money for anyone who needs the help. Think what you last spent ... Read More
Very helpful during a difficult time
The Low Iodine Diet Cookbook was a lifesaver when it came to the LID. It's easy to use, the recipes are simple and taste great, and it takes all the guesswork out of a difficult diet. I am grateful to have had it, and I recommend it to anyone having to go through the tough process of the LID.
