The nine-year challenge
This game was (and still is) awesome! I'm still amazed at the sound and graphics quality of this game, and I always have fun playing it! Some mini games are a bit confusing and incredibly hard. The golden bananas, which act like Banjo-Kazooie's jiggies, are sometimes also extremely hard to get. There's actually over 150 bananas in the game! To be exact, there's 201 bananas in the game, counting the giant (counts as 2) banana that you get for getting all of the banana fairies. This game took me about 6 years to beat (I still haven't gotten all of the bananas!) with other games in-between, including getting a Gamecube. Overall, this game is AWESOME! A must get for any N64 owner!
BEEN PLAYING THIS GAME SINCE 1999
I bought my special edition nintedno 64 that came with donkey kong 64.
i have been playing this game on and off since 1999, i have 183 out of 200 golden bannanas.
If you like classic games then this is for you.
This game is pretty good.
Overall, this game is very good. There are a multitude of puzzles to conquer and hundreds of collectibles to collect. The only real problem that I have had with the game is the sheer size of it. Finding all 200 Golden Bananas is no mean feat. In fact, by the time I got to Creepy Castle, I shelved the game out of pure disgust. I was sick of finding everything in all of the stages. First, there are the bananas of your own color to find, there are 100 of them. Then you have to find all of the Golden Bananas, of which, each Kong is capable of finding five in each level. The levels are massive, but each have a set area in which a golden banana may be found. Anyway, I have never gotten to the final boss. Maybe it is high time to pick it up again.
DK64
Overall, DK64 is a great game. It's a blast and will have you playing for hours on end. With different levels including Aztecs, Caverns, Castles, Forests, and of course, a jungle, and five different playable characters each with their own abilities and golden bananas (similar to stars in Super Mario 64) to collect, you would think Donkey Kong 64 would never get old. And it won't. For a while.
The plot goes something like this - King K. Rool has another scheme. He's taken all of Donkey Kong's precious golden bananas and kidnapped all his friends. You'll have to navigate through a series of levels, rescuing different characters in each of them, unlocking golden bananas as you go, to eventually reach the final stage. Each level has ... best Donkey Kong game so far!
Apes, monkeys, gorillas - you name it, are very interesting animals since their easy ability of scrambling on the ground, climbing up trees, swinging between them using lianas and having long arms and legs doing various other tricks with. These movements have been used in many of the Donkey Kong games, but probably not as good and funny as in this game. Here you meet up with some old characters like Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, but also new faces are seen. And for the one who enjoy exploring different landscapes, locating special things in order to complete the game - just like Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie - this game will surely be much appriciated. Besides of the movements normal apes does, can many more things be performed by the characters. ... Read More
