Amazon.com Product ReviewWhether you're installing your first garage door opener or replacing an old one, this is a great choice. First, it's supremely quiet, thanks to the vibration-free belt drive, and the 1/2-horsepower motor won't let you down over the years. And while most garage door openers have a light socket or two for perhaps a 60-watt bulb, this one has two sockets for two 100-watt bulbs, and the illumination in an otherwise dark garage is unparalleled. Speaking of illumination, we also liked the SoftGlo wall button because it's a cinch to find in the dark. It's also got a lock and a handy light switch.
As far as security, this model's ahead of the game with high-tech anti-burglary coding and a keyless entry pad as well as two remotes with three programmable buttons on each one, letting you control a separate door, gate or light. The unit itself weighs 39 pounds, so installation isn't a terrible ordeal, though you'll want to inventory all the hardware you'll need for the job, since it might not be included. Chamberlain's got top-notch customer service, and the motor in this opener has a lifetime warranty. Can't beat that.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

This is an advice not a review.
This is not a review, but an advice. This motor uses a band to move the door not a chain. So you won't be able to grow the lenght of the installation so easily. I had to return them because of that.
Hope this helps.

Don't even look at another garage door opener !!!
Replaced a sears chain drive unit and was able to use the over-door track mount. Very smooth and QUIET. Excellent basic unit - plus extras. Don't even bother to look at another garage door opener !!!
Garage Door Opener - Swap Out
I replaced two 25-year old Sears openers because the circuit boards were fried and replacements were not available. I read all the reviews here and that convinced me to buy these units. I recommend you read the other review comments on installation very carefully. Some problems encountered by others were addressed in the instructions so read them carefully! For example, the issue of an eight foot verses a seven foot door is well addressed in the instructions! If you are replacing an existing installation you will need to blend the existing with the new components. One area I did not remember being reviewed was the initial balance of the door. I have an original wooden door with 2-150# balance springs. I decided to replace those and the ... Read More
Hard to imagine a better garage door opener
Lets cut to the chase here - if you are in the market for a garage door opener, your search has ended, just add this to your cart and look forward to a straightforward installation and an all round excellent package.
Why is it such a simple choice? Here were my priorities when I purchased an opener:
1: Build Quality - Chamberlain has a great track record here and the unit is rock solid.
2: Noise - Mine is installed under the master bedroom and I leave home at 6am, so noise was an issue. Lets call it what it is, this is a garage door opener and it makes noise, but it is MUCH quieter than chain or screw drives
3: Features - Does everything I could want. I have two units and had no problem programming the remotes and ... Read More
Chamberlain Whisper Drive 1/2 HP Garage Door Opener #WD822KD
This opener is a significant step forward in this business.
It is indeed very quiet due to belt and spring buffer, a small and cheap addition, almost eliminate ugly buckling. Sectional rail is a great innovation. It makes shipping easy and cheap and provides installation flexibility. Wide range of accessories is also something that everybody would like. And all this is achieved for a very moderate price.
A fixed length of the belt is the only disadvantage. There must've been different lengths of belt available so that an installer could choose from for different number of sections or there must've been a kit provided that allows to change belt length according to number of sections used.
