What Others Say

Meets expectations
This heater put out an adequate amount of radiant heat. The fan on high speed made more noise than I expected, and the amount of hot air seemed less than the fan sound suggested. The controls were quite easy to use, and the heater maintained the ambient temperature steadily. The unit is lightweight, but the handle in the back (not the crossbar in the front)is a bit shallow and makes the unit feel unstable, especially if warm. The crossbar gets too hot to hold comfortably, so moving a warm unit is a one-handed affair using the rear grip.

Scary heater
I am originally from Maine and I now reside in San Antonio, Texas, where we are experiencing some very unusual cold weather and I felt the need to break down and buy a heater. I just bought this heater at Target based on Consumer Reports recommendation. Scary. I plugged it in, billows of smoke appeared, and a small flame shot out from one of the heating elements. I immediately turned it off and inspected the heater. One of the elements was broken in three different places. This is a brand-new heater, folks. I read another review listed here of someone who had the same problem. It sounds like a serious safety recall notification is in order from Holmes. Be careful.

warmth
The Holmes HQH319-U is great for heating a room or small area. It heats up fast, has high and low functions and can be set to a specific temperature.
The drawbacks are it is rather large and gets hot in the front and is somewhat noisy on the high setting. I wouldn't use it around children.

Room heater
I bought this after reading reviews from Consumer Reports. I needed to supplement the heat in my family room since my invalid mother is confined to that room, and for a basement area with no other heat. I was slightly disappointed with the amount of noise when the unit comes on based on the thermometer settings. It cycles off even though it doesn't feel as if the room is at the temperature that is set, so I don't use that feature. It doesn't heat the entire room but that maybe because both rooms are pretty large. It doesn't have multidirectional ability so you have to have the unit facing the area you want heated. It is not a unit that can be used around children without supervision because the elements get very hot.

Holmes 319-U Quartz Tower Heater
This is a great heater at a good price. Consumer Reports rated it highly, that's why I bought it. I am not disappointed.
