great watch
Have owned a number of Casio watches. This one is about the right size for a guy (maybe could be a tad larger), easy to use. Numbers and date easy to read. Uses its space well, low weight.
After many years of use, mine finally leaked water into it while kayaking and going under water many times. It still works, but some of the numbers don't fully display.
Trusty Dependable
I got this watch years ago on Amazon because I wanted a cheap alarm watch for travels. My thought was "Why pay hundreds for an expensive watch that tells time just as well as this one? And if it breaks, it's [...]." Turns out, this watch has gone with me to Antarctica for three field seasons now. We go out into the deep plateau, and camp out for weeks at a time, hundreds of miles from the nearest base. It's survived with me camping out at -46C one January. The buckle finally broke last week when I banged it into some equipment in the lab. I'd probably buy another, and keep the old one as a memento of all those trips.
How do you fall in love with a plastic watch?
Answer: buy a Casio Illuminator. This watch has a nice look, is quite accurate, very durable, and has most features you would want in an every day watch.
I've been using mine for years now and like it so much that when KMart ran a sale on these, I bought 2 more. They've been on the shelf at my home for years now as I keep waiting for my first one to stop working. It just won't quit!
It's true that the rubberized strap will harden and crack but it's a snap to replace at virtually any KMart or Target store. I believe my last strap was a Speidel (made especially for the Illuminator) for around $6-7. Looks like the original. Battery life is quite a variable but it very long, probably 3-5 years. I bought the same watch 11 years ago and it is still running today on the same battery. I never had to change a battery in 11 years. I was so impressed with this watch that I had to buy another one.
Good, ecomomical, rugged and simple.
This is another great Casio watch. It has an alarm, stopwatch, date and time plus it's water resistant. It's a good size, it's simple to use and it's durable. I do wish it had a countdown timer but there are other Casio's out there that do.
