Good toast with some caveats
I've had this toaster for about a month. I bought it to replace a toaster oven that took up a lot more space but made inadequate toast. The Hamilton Beach is very good -- it toasts fairly evenly. I do find that I have to put it on setting 4 to get the desired darkness, though. And English muffins need to be toasted twice to get color on them. But I like the fact the slots take the largest slices of bread. The defrost function works very well -- I defrosted a couple of frozen English muffins and then was able to split and toast them. All in all a very good toaster. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I could.
What a disapointment!
Well I admit I fell for the 3 - 5 star reviews and ordered one thinking that it would be fantastic. I was replacing a $15 toaster that didn't have wide enough slots and never toasted the same way twice. I took it out of the box and put an english muffin in it and waited for it to knock my socks off. It toasted the muffin and the handle popped up. Unfortunately my muffin didn't pop up. I was forced to get two butter knives and use them like chopsticks to fish out my muffin. Why didn't they design this to raise high enough to get a muffin to rise from the slots? My $15 toaster at least did that!
Update 12/1/08 I bought a Cousinart CPT-160 It toasts my muffins with no problems and is as nice looking if not more than the Hamilton Beach 22110
At last-a toaster that works
I purchased this toaster because there were two five-star reviews and I was not going to bring anything less than a five-star toaster into my home again-I have had it with the cheap, bad ones. This toaster lives up to my expectations. It is beautiful on the counter, easy to use, does not have a 3-prong plug and I love the reheat button. So far it is perfect for bread, bagels, even crumpets.
Finally!!
We went through so many toasters, looking for one that actually did what it promised. We love this toaster! It is fast and the toast is the color it should be for the setting. We used the reheat this morning after the toast sat for 5 minutes and it was perfect. And to add to its charm, the toaster looks very cool!
Best toaster ever
In 42 years of marriage (which includes many, many toasters over the years) - this Hamilton Beach 22110 Eclectrics All-Metal 2-slice Toaster is the best toaster we have ever had. It toasts evenly on both sides!!
