What Others Say

Laplink does not honor license.
I purchased PCMover as part of a new computer. I transferred programs and data according to instructions, but an SQL database did not work properly on the new computer. Not surprising, this is complicated software. However, even though I reversed the original transfer, and the original transfer did not work, they would not let me use the software to transfer from a different computer to the new computer. Laplink seems to think that they can steal with impunity.

Not worth the time or money!
Complete waste of time and money! I knew going in that it would likely take 5 or so hours for the file transfer. What I didn't realize is that it doesn't move non MS items like Quick Books at all. It would have been far faster for me to re-install my software programs manually then to use PC Mover. I keep all my files backed-up anyway so PC Mover really didn't help in that area either.PCmover with Selectivity, Including Laplink USB 1.1 Cable

Don't do it!
Dreadful experience from start to finish. The transfer failed 5 times with the rather unhelpful error message "PCmover has encountered and error and needs to close". On-line support instantly suggested enabling logging at both ends, trying it again, and then sending the log files to the developers who would be in touch in "a day or so". Obviously I wasn't the first fool to pay them to help them develop their product.

The value proposition is the product will save you time and effort, and is therefore worth spending the money on. The reality is you don't save any time, and you still spent the money. My advice would be to save your money, spend more time looking for your original disks, and move manually.

A great tool
This is a great computer tool. I bnought a new computer and wondered how I was going to move my MANY programs, files, docs etc to my new computer. I found Laplink PC Mover Moving Kit which had highly rated professional reviews. I have Windows XP Home on my old computer and Vista on my new one. The transfer went so smoothly, I couldn't believe I had NO problems.
Absolutely a great tool.

TERRIBLE! BEWARE!
What a headache and a waste of time and money! I used Laplink PC Mover Moving Kit to transfer from an XP desktop to a new Vista desktop. Getting it to transfer in the first place was a frustrating, time consuming struggle, involving an online chat with tech support, who was marginally helpful at best. They resolved the issue by having me switch ends of the transfer cable, which has NO MARKINGS to indicate that it makes any difference which way it is connected. After several tries the transfer worked. 14 hours later it was done. I then started to explore the new computer to find that almost none of the transferred software worked. Those that did work, such as photoshop, were unable to open any of the associated files that were transferred with them. ... Read More
