Better than George
I have really enjoyed this machine. It heats quickly and sandwiches, steaks, etc. cook quickly. I disagree with the chef that said the ridges were not needed. I think sandwiches taste so much better when cooked on this versus a flat grill. The only regret that I have is that the machine was made in China. The thing I really like is the cleanup. It is a lot easier to clean than my George Foreman grill.
great grill
Emerilware GC4009002 Electric Grill and Panini Maker is a great grill. This is the second one I have had, the first one got damaged when it was dropped from the kitchen counter. I wouldn't have bought a replacement if I didn't like the product and think it is a good product, especially like the fact the grills can be dishwasher cleaned.
Grill and Panini Maker
Excellent grill. Haven't made panini's yet. Had to get use to the hinges raised and looking like they are not attached but when you lift grill top up you can clearly see the pieces are fitting into the slots as they should. Heats up and cooks very quickly. I carefully clean my grill while it is still hot. My experience with George Foreman taught me that this works well for me. But I do take precautions and I am very careful not to get burned or steam burned. Food comes off quickly and easily and when it cools I am ready to store. This works successfully for me but may not be recommended for those not experienced with cleaning hot surfaces. PLEASE BE CAREFUL IF YOU TRY THIS WAY OF CLEANING!!!!!!!!!!
Malfunctioning after only 1 year of use
I've owned this grill for about a year and I loved it at first. But, unfortunately, love fades, and so did the functionality of this grill. The thermostat appears to be failing because the grill no longer holds temperature after preheating. It now takes twice as long to cook steaks and fish as it did when the unit was new. And the non-stick coating has worn off the grill plates, even though I was very careful when cleaning them. Food now sticks to the cooking surface like glue, even when using large amounts of cooking oil. All in all, Emerilware GC4009002 Electric Grill and Panini Maker has turned out to be a big disappointment and a waste of money.
Almost the perfect grill, but...
I was also tired of my Foreman grill and bought this for the panini capability and the multiple positions it has.
The good - very easy to take apart and clean. Flavors are better with hot dogs and hamburgers - they're juicier and not 'flattened'.
The bad - I would love for it to have a timer and to beep when it's hot enough. For the price, I'd expect one. But, instead, we get a little dial that goes red when it's not ready. Grilling at first was hit or miss - burgers would be charred on the outside and red inside. Finally figured it out after a few bad experiences.
It could be the perfect 'do it all' grill. But, it's not there yet.
