Cheap plastic construction and the worst support experience ever
I made the mistake of purchasing HP Officejet Pro L7680 Color All-in-One Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier (C8189A#ABA) despite other complaints about support and software quality issues. I figured I could just avoid calling support and use the "basic" version of the drivers. My HP Officejet 6100 was getting long in the teeth and I really needed a printer with ethernet connectivity so that I can shut down my PC and have my girlfriend still be able to print from her iMac.
The L7680 is attractive from a features point-of-view. The duplex printing is what sold me. Ironically however, I think the duplexer is the point of failure that resulted in me getting a printer that refused to acknowledge there being any paper in the tray. Solid Performance, not very pretty
My 7680 has been in service and has performed flawlessly (as fax, copier, and scanner) for almost 12-months. Not as pretty as some of the competition, but a solid performer. Great color copies.
A great printer with a great feature set that works well in OS X and Windows XP
After reading the mostly negative reviews of this printer, I decided to buy it anyway. The specs looked great and I don't seem to have the problems with electronics that many other people commonly complain of. Turns out, this printer is no different. I have not had any "deal breaker" problems and I think it is a fantastic unit.
Pro's: Fast, good looking prints. Text is crisp and photo's on photo paper look fantastic. Time will tell, but it looks as if this machine is going to save me a ton of money on ink compared to my last HP inkjet. Built in networking and print server. A new awesome feature called Direct Digital Filing that allows you to scan directly to a network folder. Fast installation of the HP software.
HP Officejet Pro L7680
I have had HP Officejet Pro L7680 Color All-in-One Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier (C8189A#ABA) for about 6 months and use it to print church bulletins and flyers primarily. This is the third HP Officejet product that we have purchased and this appears to be the worst of the three that we have owned. Unit is attached via network connection and response is slow. Unit's address seem to change quite often and there are long periods between jobs. Unit prints fast in draft mode and the colors are good. I probably will not buy another model of the HP officejet series.
Not compatible with Windows Vista
This printer worked great when I bought it and was running Windows XP. I upgraded to Windows Vista and the printer will no longer scan documents and frequently only prints the top half of pages. HP support is useless - many of their troubleshooting solutions refer only to Windows XP and earlier versions. The available Vista drivers have no effect on the funtion. A review of on-line forums indicates many users have this same problem. If you have Vista, stay away from this printer.
