Don't Cook At High Temperature!
I purchased this dutch oven on Amazon because it was on sale and looked attractive. Unfortunately, I used it without reading the directions that said it shouldn't be used at temperatures over 400 degrees.
I made No Knead Bread with the dutch oven and cooked it at 450 degrees. Sure enough, the knob on the lid cracked and when I took out the bread, there was a nickel-sized hole in the enamel finish at the bottom of the pot.
Just a word of warning that if your recipe calls for temperatures over 400 degrees, this oven is not for you.
Exellent value; great results
I've had this pot for several months and it has performed flawlessly. Gumbos, pasta sauces, etc. all cook very well and have not stained or discolored the white enamel in the least. Can't beat it at this price, much less $29 that I paid on sale!!!
A proper dutch oven
Heavy, wide, cast iron with an enamel coating. Lid fits very tight. You can even boil water in it with not much steam escaping. I don't think the knob is recommended for the oven, but mine has survived quite nicely. Muh cheaper than many others *coughcoughLeCrucetcough*. Absolutely worth your money.
As Good as Le Creuset, but a Lot Less Expensive
Put the Lodge up against the Le Creuset and you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference. It cooks just like the Le Creuset as well. But the Lodge is much less expensive.
The enamel surface is easy to clean, just don't use abrasives.
It weighs a ton, so be sure to use the free shipping option.
Lodge Color (red) Enameled Cast-Iron Dutch Oven
Great product - works flawlessly. Excellent heat retention - i can keep a soup at a low boil on setting 2 of my oven. Easy to clean. 5 Stars
