Great Pan!
This is the best pan for risotto and sauces. I love it, it is very heavy but the design works great especially for risotto. I make a lot of big dinners and is has made my life easier. Way to go Mario!
Great chef's pan
I recently got this pan, so I can't say anything about durability yet, but so far I really like this pan. It cooks very evenly and retains heat very well due to the cast iron. I like the rounded bottom because I like to cook stews, soups and risotto. When making a stew or sauce the rounded bottom helps to keep the roux from spreading out too much. Of course, it's heavy but it's cast iron so you have to expect that. One thing that surprised me was how easily it cleans up-- it was just as quick as my non-stick cookware.
Look at the different colors if you're not too picky because I got this one in the "Penne" color for only $30 and the other colors were around $80. Good deal!
Good Value, Great Pan
One of the benefits of buying Cookware and Kitchen Accessories from Amazon is the value. They offer great discounts on special "gold box" items that have been picked for us based on our buying trends. Occasionally there is a piece that is exclusive to Amazon, but it the same as products that cost allot more from traditional kitchen retailers. This is the case with this penne colored risotto pan and saucier. Now the difference with me and Megan is that I love the color. It works well in my warm toned Tuscan style kitchen. Actually the persimmon and the pesto colors look great as well. Regarding the matte finish. This is the same as the white which is offered exclusively at Crate and Barrel for $89.99.
