What Others Say

Decent AM radio
I got this primarily because I wanted the a small AM radio, with good reception. The FM and shortwave is just a bonus for me.

PROS:

* Good sound.

* Solid. It has a strong, metalic feel, covered in rubber. Good grip. I dropped it on the sidewalk, and it wasn't hurt.

* External speaker.

CONS:

* Analog dial. You have to shift the dial to tune in to your station, and you keep nudging the dial back and forth to find the perfect spot.

* No preset button. Difficult, annoying, and time-consuming to switch stations back and forth on an analog dial, especially at night, when you can't really see the numbers, because...

* Numbers not backlit. ... Read More

The item arrived not fully working
Overall it seemed liked a good product, but mine arrived without the FM band working - will not work no matter what's tried.

Good reception, bad design
Reception is pretty good, but the placement of the headphone jack on the side makes this awkward to put in a pocket, the case that comes with it is just a joke (vinyl pocket with a loop to run your belt through -- why not just a clip?). Most annoying is the digital display but analog tuner, dial is easy to bump and lose your station, and after you get it on the frequency you want it can drift.

If you set it on a table and listen through the speaker, it works. Otherwise get something else.

Good trade and poor design
Grundig trade mark is excelent. Unfortunately the design of this radio (tall) and only digital display (it not full digital) were awful for me. The radio always drops and the dial frequency is hardly keeped. It is and old-fashioned one with a digital display. There is no scan and no memories to radio store.

Covers a lot of spectrum, but not very usable
I bought this radio for shortwave coverage during an emergency. The spectrum it covers is great, but there is a ton of drift in the frequency tuner. And, though it has a digital display of the selected frequency, it doesn't use PLL to lock into frequencies. So you'll probably notice the tuner continue to change by fractions of hertz even after you've stopped touching the tuner. I'm just not very satisfied with it.

I suggest spending more if you're looking for a good shortwave radio. If you don't care about shortwave, then stay away from the Grundig or Eton 300. Get a Sony or some other manufacturer of quality AM/FM radios.
